Virtual and Group Net Metering: why processes matter

From the Suryasthan 2025 knowledge archive · Historical context, not live regulatory guidance.

Virtual Net Metering and Group Net Metering featured in the Suryasthan 2025 industry knowledge session. They were discussed as routes to widen access for group housing, shared rooftops and consumers whose premises may not provide suitable roof area.

REAR's reported request was for Rajasthan DISCOMs to publish detailed SOPs for these mechanisms. Clear rules on eligibility, allocation, billing and settlement will influence whether consumers and EPCs can use such models in practice.

This article describes what was discussed at the event. Eligibility, tariff treatment and current procedural validity must be checked against the latest applicable RERC orders and DISCOM instructions before a project is proposed.
